Dr. Geoffrey Kanter was mentored in neuropsychology by Dr. Jeffrey Barth while earning his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia in 1987. He also received training in the Child and Family Systems model created by the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic.
When the NeuroCare Residential Traumatic Brain Injury Program in Concord, California, needed a neuropsychologist, he was the first person they called. The neuro-rehabilitation unit at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in San Mateo hired him, and he worked his way up to manager of psychology there. Later in 1991, he relocated to Sarasota, where he assumed the role of director of psychology at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital.
Creating the position of Director of Psychology at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in 1997, he implemented a comprehensive behavioral medicine program for inpatients. Using a multidisciplinary team model, he expanded Comprehensive MedPsych Systems from its original location in 1998 to multiple locations across the country.
